The Directors‘ Office is a team of six staff members working in a central interface position between the Board of Directors and the scientific as well as the administrative divisions of the HZB. They coordinate HZB’s committees (the Supervisory Board, the Scientific Advisory Council, the Scientific-Technical Council and the Meetings of the Board of Directors) and are responsible for appointment procedures, the promotion of young scientists, international matters and project management. Further duties are writing reports for internal as well as external audiences and drawing up regulations for HZB-internal use.
TasksThe successful candidate will be a scientific manager interested in international scientific management and with initial experience in this field. Key to the role will be implementing and further developing the strategy for the internationalization of the HZB. You will establish working relationships with researchers on a national as well as on an international level, and get to know national and international scientific organizations. You will provide advice on strategic matters of internationalization to the Board of Directors and the staff of HZB. Liaising and networking with partners within and outside of the HZB, university and non-university members, and supporting the preparation of funding applications will be main responsibilities. Other tasks will be contributing actively to international committees and being the contact person for HZB’s international staff members. This position provides the opportunity to gather knowledge of and experience in research funding in the scientific management of large organizations.
This is a fixed-term appointment for 24 months with the possibility for an open-ended position subject to the suitability of the role holder.
RequirementsYou have a PhD in Natural Sciences, knowledge of and experience in intercultural management, international relations or internationalization, preferably within the academic system or research organizations. Familiarity with the German and international science systems will be required. You are strongly interested in and motivated to promote the development of international collaboration. The willingness to travel and a sound knowledge of German and English are essential. Being an open-minded individual you enjoy working in a team and in an international environment. Knowledge of the research funding programs of the Helmholtz Association will be an advantage but is not essential.
What we offerFixed term contract for 24 months . The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
