Achieving climate-neutrality within the next 20 years necessitates an innovation boost for the development of highly efficient, scalable, low-cost, and sustainably produced energy technologies. Polymer materials play a central role in this process.

We are looking for a Computational Chemist / PostDoc HIPOLE Jena - Molecular solar thermal energy (m/f/d) for our two site in Jena, Germany. The PostDoc position offers a unique opportunity to address critical challenges Theoretical chemistry / material modelling for the elucidation of reaction mechanisms of catalytic energy release processes of molecular solar thermal energy storage (MOST) systems and for the screening of catalytic energy release processes in close co-operation with various theoretical and experimental partners. Your Tasks
- Elucidation of reaction mechanisms of catalytic energy release processes of molecular solar thermal storage (MOST) systems such as 1,2-dihydro-1,2-azaborine derivatives using quantum chemical methods
- Screening of individual steps of the surface reactions
- Methods: Density functional theory, semi-empirical methods and molecular dynamic simulations are used
- The results will be documented, analysed and subsequently published
- Close collaboration with experimental and theoretical working groups from Giessen, Erlangen, Tübingen, Frankfurt and Heidelberg
- Supervision of Bachelor's/Master's students and doctoral candidates
- Summary, presentation and publication of the results in English
Your Profile
- Completed scientific university degree in chemistry or materials science
- PhD (or shortly before completion) in theoretical chemistry / quantum chemistry or material modelling
- Extensive knowledge in the field of theoretical chemistry / quantum chemistry and material modelling
- Experience in the field of surface modelling and working with Linux systems and mainframe computers
- Experience in the field of ab initio molecular dynamics simulations
- Very good written and spoken English skills
- Very good publication record
- Experience in presenting scientific content in English

Fixed term contract for 24 months. The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
