Doctoral student (f/m/d) in physics for the Investigation of Thermal and Electronic Transport Properties in Quantum Materials

Reference No.: QM 2024/10

Then we are looking for you!

The Department of Dynamics and Transport in Quantum Materials at HZB performs research on charge and thermal transport phenomena in quantum and strongly correlated materials. Our research involves the experimental investigation of the transport behavior of electrons, vibrational states (phonons) and magnetic excitations using photon and neutron scattering techniques at international and large-scale research facilities available at HZB. Complementary to these spectroscopic methods, we apply a multitude of laboratory-based measurement techniques to characterize the structural, electronic, magnetic, and thermal properties as a function of external parameters, such as temperature or magnetic field.

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our research group on a current project. The goal is to elucidate potential microscopic mechanisms underlying the coupling of charge-neutral quasiparticles and magnetic degrees of freedom. The experimental characterization methods used include macroscopic heat transport measurements, which are complemented by measurements with inelastic scattering methods (photons, neutrons).
