Postdoc (m/f/d) HIPOLE Jena
Reference no.: HI 2024/4
Achieving climate neutrality within the next 20 years will require a surge in innovation for the development of highly efficient, scalable, cost-effective and sustainably produced energy technologies. Polymeric materials play a central role in this process. HIPOLE integrates and extends world-class expertise in polymer chemistry, materials science, high-throughput experimentation and artificial intelligence with complementary expertise in inorganic/hybrid materials, scalable devices and advanced characterisation.
We are now looking for a postdoctoral researcher for our location in Jena. You will have the opportunity to support the newly founded institute with your ideas and expertise from the very beginning and will work with researchers from all over the world to contribute to the development of a climate-friendly future. The research focus is on supporting battery research with conceptual approaches to the characterisation of polymer materials as a bridge from synthesis to energy application, with the following aspects playing a role:
- Molecular hydrodynamic analysis of polymer materials
- Use and support of worldwide unique instruments for analytical ultracentrifugation, fractionation and light scattering
- Establishment of new detection methods in analytical ultracentrifugation in collaboration with HZB scientists and engineers
Your Tasks
- Characterisation of novel materials for use in storage systems (redox-flow batteries) with regard to molecular viscometry, sedimentation analysis and scattering behaviour.
- Experimental support in the supervision of qualification theses (Bachelor, Master, PhD).
- Independent further development of characterisation methods in solution, conceptually and taking into account the needs of the institute.
- Summarising, presenting and publishing the results (also in English).
- Active further development of your scientific personality and expertise in an exciting new field of work and research.
Your Profile
- Successfully completed university degree in chemistry, physics, materials science or a comparable degree programme as well as a doctorate in the field of macromolecular chemistry, the physical chemistry of polymers or related topics or a doctorate in engineering sciences
- Very good knowledge of classical physical relationships and their practical application
- Knowledge of polymer chemistry/polymer physics is an advantage
- Basic knowledge of analytical techniques and methods
- General computer skills, including Windows and Office
- Very good knowledge of written and spoken English
- Very good publication record and ideally experience in obtaining external funding
- Experience in presenting scientific content (also in English)
Your Benefits at HZB
- An international/diversity-sensitive working environment at a Helmholtz institute with a workplace in the science city Jena
- Good work-life balance (flexible work time models: flextime, part-time)
- 30 days paid leave
- Health management, company sports programs, company pension scheme (VBL)
- Financial support for public transport (Deutschlandticket Job)
- Opportunities for further development/training opportunities
- And a team that looks forward to meeting you!
Fixed term contract for 24 months. The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
How to apply
We look forward to receiving your application via our application management system by 26.05.2024. For reasons of data protection regulations, we are unfortunately unable to consider applications that reach us by other means (such as email or mail) in the application process.
