For this, a well-functioning IT infrastructure in conjunction with cooperations throughout the scientific environment in Germany and the world is indispensable. As the Server Systems working group of the Server Systems and Basic Services department, we are responsible for the entire lifecycle of the operating systems of all decentrally and centrally provided IT services.
The main tasks are the recording of user requirements before the provision of new server systems, the transfer of the requirements into the lifecycle process, the implementation and maintenance of server systems as well as the system administration of special services and software (e.g. Icinga, Check_MK, Ansible) to maintain the tasks.
As a system administrator for Linux operating systems, you will play a key role in ensuring that the IT infrastructure functions smoothly for its users at HZB and beyond. You can expect a responsible and meaningful job. You will be supported by a team that lives and breathes collegiality and tolerance.
Your Tasks
- You ensure the operation and the very high and permanent availability of different central operating systems and applications. In particular, advanced knowledge of the following services is necessary: NextCloud as well as the technical and organisational provision of operating systems and components based on Unix and Linux.
- You support and advise our employees in the use, troubleshooting and monitoring of the operating system, take over the 2nd level support of the enrolment procedures and, if necessary, other services and applications.
- You analyse the server deployments ahead of time and determine their resource requirements, as well as communicate requirements to the responsible departments.
- You locate, analyse, and eliminate errors.
- You prepare professional documentation, specifications, and needs-based instructions for the period after the handover of server systems.
Requirements
- Completed university education, preferably in computer science, or corresponding activities based on equivalent skills and experience.
- Very good knowledge and practical experience in the field of system administration of services and their operation – especially linux-based
- Practical experience in dealing with clients
- Experience in the implementation of and collaboration in projects

The employment contract is unlimited. The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
