Postdoc (f/m/d) in the Field of Material Science or Electrochemistry
Reference No.: CE 2024/8
In the Department for Electrochemical Energy Storage, we focus on fundamental aspects of novel battery concepts like sulphur cathodes and lithiated silicon anodes. Our aim is to understand the crucial mechanisms that lead to their marked capacity fading. Our department has a strong expertise in operando studies of battery systems, which is closely connected to our efforts to synthesize new carbon nanostructures as cathode materials for lithium/sulphur cells.Your Tasks
- You are responsible for the design, fabrication and electrochemical investigation of electrodes and Li-S batteries (button and pouch cells, operando cells) integrating the sensors and self-healing (SH) materials developed by project partners.
- You use and further develop operando and post-mortem characterization methods (including laboratory-based physicochemical analyses and corresponding measurements in large-scale facilities) to investigate the chemical and structural changes of sulfur-host materials, Li metal electrodes, and electrode-electrolyte interfaces on different length scales to demonstrate the electrochemical behavior of the sensors and SH materials during battery operation.
- You work with internal colleagues and external project partners on the development of sensors and SH materials as well as Li/S electrodes and batteries with the aim of improving the electrochemical performance of Li-S batteries using sensors and SH materials.
- You supervise data processing and write papers for scientific publications.
- You present and discuss research results at national and international conferences and meetings.
Your Profile
- Completed university studies in the field of materials science or electrochemistry
- Inter- & multi-disciplinary knowledge on battery materials synthesis, electrode/cell design and engineering, and advanced characterization
- Research experience in rechargeable batteries (both coin cells and pouch cells), especially Li-S batteries
- Skilled in physio-chemical characterization of materials and electrodes, such as SEM/TEM, XRD, UV-Vis, Raman, etc., especially operando/in situ techniques
- Advanced knowledge on the interpretation of scientific results and presentation
- Good skills in communication, project coordination and management
- Good language skills in English
Your Benefits
- Work-life balance through flexible working hours and remote work
- Subsidy for public transport (Deutschlandticket Job)
- A company pension scheme (VBL)
- Access to our research infrastructure
- A dynamic and international work environment
- Health management and company sports
- A team that looks forward to meeting you
Fixed term contract for 36 months. The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
