Doctoral Student (f/m/d) in the Field of Chemistry
Reference No.: CE 2024/7
This project is part of Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1636 “lementary Processes of Light-Driven Reactions at Nanoscale Metals coordinated by University of Potsdam. The title of sub-project A02 is "Mechanistic Studies of Plasmon-Induced Bond Cleavage and Cross-Coupling Reactions Using SERS and X-ray Probing Methods". This project aims at unravelling the mechanism of plasmon-induced carbon-halogen bond cleavage and subsequent carbon-carbon coupling reactions and revealing the influence of the plasmonic material on the observed reactivity.Your Tasks
- Synthesis and characterization of plasmonic-based nanoparticles (Au, Ag, etc.) and testing their plasmon-assisted "catalytic effect" in solution.
- Optimization of the parameters (e.g. temperature, reaction time, precursor species and concentrations) for up-scaling of synthesis, which will be used for SERS and XAS experiments by the partners.
- Surface modification of plasmonic nanoparticles that can modulate the charge transfer and heat transfer processes in catalytic reactions.
- Work collaboratively with internal colleagues and external partners to understand the mechanism of plasmon-induced catalytic reactions.
- Data processing and writing papers for scientific publications.
- Presentation and discussion of research results at national and international conferences and meetings.
Your Profile
- Completed university studies in the field of chemistry or materials science
- Inter- & multi-disciplinary knowledge on plasmonic nanoparticles synthesis, plasmon-enhanced catalytic reaction, and advanced characterization
- Research experience in colloid chemistry, especially in nanoparticle synthesis and sur-face modification techniques
- Skilled in physio-chemical characterization of materials and catalytic reactions, such as SEM/TEM, XRD, UV-Vis, Raman, GC-MS, etc.
- Advanced knowledge on the interpretation of scientific results and presentation
- Good skills in communication and project management
- Good language skills in English
Your Benefits
- Work-life balance through flexible working hours and mobile working, as well as counselling centres on work-life balance issues
- Subsidy for public transport (Deutschlandticket Job)
- A company pension scheme (VBL)
- Access to the centre's research infrastructure
- A dynamic and international environment
- Health management and company sports programmes
Fixed term contract for 48 months. The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
