Projekt Manager BESSY III (f/m/d)
Reference No.: GF 2024/6
We are planning the materials research of the future. Do you want to help shape the future? With BESSY III, we want to build and operate a 4th generation synchrotron radiation source for materials research in Berlin-Adlershof, which will open up completely new opportunities for the knowledge-based design of novel materials and thus for solving major societal challenges. BESSY III will be optimized for high-resolution spectroscopic and microscopic investigations in the soft to medium X-ray range. In combination with special laboratory facilities, embedded in the HZB research campus and the science and technology campus in Berlin-Adlershof, users from universities, research institutions and industry will gain unique insights into materials, processes and components under operando conditions. We are currently working on the specific design concept for the facility, which is scheduled to go into operation in 2035. As the HZB as a whole has committed itself to conducting research and working in a greenhouse gas-neutral manner by 2035, the comprehensive consideration of all aspects of sustainability and resource responsibility over the entire life cycle of planning, construction, operation and subsequent use is an integral part of the planning work for this pioneering research facility.Your Tasks
- Management of the BESSY III project team in all project areas (accelerators, beamlines, experimental infrastructure, buildings and technical building equipment) from the concept phase to implementation.
- Setting up the project structure and organizing the concept phase through to the implementation phase.
- Creation, tracking and monitoring of the project plan (time, financial and personnel planning) and risk management.
- Representation of the project inside (center, committees, employees) and outside the HZB (politics, decision-makers, users).
- Impulses for further optimization of the performance parameters of the accelerator facility.
- Development and pursuit of a holistic sustainability concept for the planning, construction and operating phases.
- Establishing collaborations with partners from universities, research institutions and industry.
Your Profile
- Outstanding expertise in accelerator physics (research and technology development for accelerator-based large-scale facilities)
- Experience in the operation and utilization of accelerator-based research infrastructures, especially with regard to aspects of sustainability and resource responsibility
- Proven experience in the management of large projects, especially in the field of large research infrastructures
- Excellent communication skills
- Assertiveness and decisiveness
- Ability to build and lead a strong, focused team
- In-depth knowledge of the German research landscape
Your Benefits
- An ambitious, forward-looking project in a unique research environment
- A motivated team and excellent expertise in all project-relevant areas
- Comprehensive design opportunities during the project's maturation
- Research opportunities in accelerator research as part of the Helmholtz Association's program-oriented research
